Invitation from Edward James Olmos

Dear LPB Friends,

There are times, despite the personal cost, when you must take a stand for what you know to be true. Today, we continue to confront misconceptions and misguided views about Latinos. That is why I am writing to ask you to stand with me to support Latino Public Broadcasting (LPB) and lend your voice to the work that LPB does to propel our stories across national media platforms.

C.Headshot1As Chairman of LPB, I am very proud that we are one of the strongest advocates for Latinos in public media and beyond – exposing injustices and championing the stories of our hopes, our dreams, our culture and our challenges.

DOLORES, the acclaimed LPB supported film about one of the least known and most important civil rights activists in American history—Dolores Huerta— shows that it takes grit and determination to right wrongs and challenge the status quo. Like Dolores, who co-founded the first farm workers union with Cesar Chavez, we too must see beyond the obstacles to progress and tell the true stories of Latino Americans.

Of LPB’s annual budget, over 60% goes directly to supporting the work of filmmakers. By supporting LPB, you too can work to change minds and hearts one compelling story at a time. Every donation counts – $25, $50, $100, $200. No gift is too small and each is valued. The breakthrough films that LPB supports like Latino Americans, John Leguizamo’s Tales from a Ghetto Klown, Facing North, Willie Velasquez: Your Vote is Your Voice among others, shine a bright light on important stories that might otherwise not be told.

Because of LPB’s leadership and advocacy the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation have recently joined with LPB to fund even more documentary films exploring social justice issues. LPB’s top priority in 2018 is to make this fund even stronger so that we can ensure that these important films are a catalyst for advancing understanding and a better-informed public. This is work we can all be proud of, and work that must go on. Please stand with me, donate today.

In solidarity,

Edward James Olmos
Chair, Board of Directors and Co-founder
