Carlos Ávila is an award-winning director for film and television. He grew up in the working-class Echo Park neighborhood of Los Angeles to Mexican and Peruvian parents. Carlos made his feature film directing debut with New Line Cinema’s 2000 release, Price of Glory starring Jimmy Smits, Clifton Collins, Jr. and Ron Perlman. This family drama set against the world of amateur and professional boxing was developed at the Sundance Institute’s Director and Writer Labs. In 2001, he was awarded the ALMA (American Latino Media Arts) award for Best Director for his work on this film. He also served as Executive Producer on the film’s groundbreaking soundtrack CD which introduced Latino Rock and Hip Hop to a wide audience. Carlos is the creator of Foto-Novelas, a Humanitas Prize-nominated PBS television series comprised of half-hour dramas in the spirit of The Twilight Zone. His award-winning short films, Distant Water and La Carpa have screened at numerous film festivals in the United States and worldwide. Carlos also directed the pilot to the Sony Television / Telemundo detective series, Reyes y Rey, among other Spanish-language television shows. He directed the “Street Money” episode of the long-running CBS series, Cold Case, which featured a breakthrough performance by rising-star, Chadwick Boseman. Carlos’s first documentary, Tales of Masked Men, about lucha libre (Mexican professional wrestling) and the tradition of the masked wrestler, was completed in Fall 2012. The film was the recipient of three 2013 Best Documentary Awards at film festivals around the United States. The film has had two national broadcasts, a DVD, Netflix and iTunes release. Most recently, Carlos directed episodes of the long-running NBC fantasy /
procedural series, Grimm. He is fluent in both English and Spanish.

Elaine Montalvo (Producer / Costume Designer) is a Costume Designer for film and television. Her television credits include the Party of Five reboot for Freeform, AMC’s The Walking Dead, the widely acclaimed PBS magical- realist series Foto-Novelas, the Nickelodeon comedy series Big Time Rush, and FX’s Peabody award-winning drama series The Bridge. Elaine has designed over twenty-nine feature films including the highly acclaimed movie directed by Chris Weitz, A Better Life, for which Demian Bichir was nominated for an Academy Award for leading actor. Some of Elaine’s various credits include the winner of the 2002 Sundance Film Festival Audience Award, Real Women Have Curves starring America Ferrera; Chuck and Buck, winner of the Independent Spirit Award, Best Film 2000; and the drama American Gun starring Academy Award-winner James Coburn and Academy Award Nominee Virginia Madsen. Elaine was nominated for a Streamy Award for Best Use of Fashion and Design for John Chu’s dance and music web series, Remixed. Elaine Montalvo is from a Mexican American family and is originally from the San Joaquin Valley of rural Central California and now resides in Los Angeles. She received her B.A. from U.C. Berkeley with a double major in Film and Psychology and continued her training at the California Institute of the Arts where she achieved a Master of Fine Arts degree in Costume Design and Creative Writing. Elaine immerses herself in her work with a deep level of commitment and continues to approach her projects with a unique understanding of character and story. The Kill Floor is Elaine’s first credit as a Producer.
