ABOUT THE FILM-

The Blue Diner tells the story of a young Puerto Rican woman and her mother living together in Boston, and the difficulties they encounter when the daughter, Elena, mysteriously loses her ability to speak Spanish. This film uses the relationship between mother and daughter, as well as the daughter’s conflicting romantic relationships to highlight the importance of culture and language in her life, as it represents the importance of these two elements in the culture of bilingual Latinos.
