El Equipo chronicles the unique collaboration between Dr. Clyde Snow, a legendary forensic scientist originally from Texas, and a group of Latin American university students, Mercedes “Mimi” Doretti, Luis Fondebrider, Patricia Bernardi and others, who were originally dubbed “unlikely forensic sleuths” by The New York Times. Initially unsure of whether they would do forensic work at all, the team would go on to challenge the official cover-ups of violent and repressive regimes through the identification of the missing and the collection of evidence. Working for nearly four decades, it is work that continues to this day. Working from a rich trove of archival materials and pulling from interviews conducted over a 10-year period, the film follows this groundbreaking scientific team as they face increased threats to their safety and official attempts to discredit their work as they seek to provide families with answers for their missing loved ones.
