PRODUCTION CREDITSDawn Valadez
Producer/Director
Dawn Valadez, Producer/Director, believes that feminism is a dirty word and she loves dirty words. As a Chicana feminist she has worked with children and youth struggling to stay sane despite the insanity of the adults around them, with young people wanting to make a difference in the world and with families, hard working people, trying to make ends meet. She believes that the media must be taken back; freed from faceless, nameless corporate interests. She has collaboratively built public art and installations with youth, hosted conferences on community service and trained thousands of people. For over 20 years she’s worked on the front lines of social services and now sees the wisdom of producing media about the people she has lived with and served. She’s been married for over 17 years, has a pre-teen son and two silly rescued pitbull-mix dogs. In addition to producing this film she raises resources, including money, for a non-profit that serves working poor people.
Kristy Guevara-Flanagan

Kristy Guevara-Flanagan, Director/Producer, picked up her first Super-8 camera in middle school and hasn’t put the camera down since. The film won the Golden Spire Award at the San Francisco International Film Festival, was an official selection of the Sundance Film Festival and was subsequently licensed by the Sundance Channel. Since graduating with an MFA in Film Production from San Francisco State University, Kristy has worked as a filmmaker, an arts educator, and a film and video editor. She has served on the board of directors of the documentary film distributor New Day Films and is an active and enthusiastic participant in the Bay Area’s diverse filmmaking community. Going on 13 is her first feature-length film.

Corey Ohama, Editor, received an MFA in Film from San Francisco State University and a B.A. in Semiotics from Brown University. She works as a documentary editor in the San Francisco Bay Area. Her current project is A Tale of Two Sisters, which looks at the experience of two Japanese-American sisters: one who fled the internment of Japanese-Americans in California, ending up in an ashram in Harlem where she worked for peace alongside future civil rights leaders Bayard Rustin and James Farmer; the other who stayed behind and was sent to a internment camp in Colorado. Going on 13 is her first feature-length work as an editor.
Gerry Watson

He was the primary photographer for KPIX CBS 5’s multi-Emmy award winning Investigative Unit led by the reporter Anna Werner.
Sara Porto Nolan
Associate Producer
Nolan’s career began in print journalism. After leaving her “old life” of pop-culture reporting behind for the world of social justice documentaries, she worked at Toxic Comedy Pictures where she was associate producer for a feature documentary on global climate change titled Everything’s Cool, and produced the DVD for the award-winning doc Blue Vinyl (for which she also coordinated outreach projects with Working Films). She co-produced When the Road Bends: Tales of a Gypsy Caravan, and associate produced Amir Bar-Lev’s My Kid Could Paint That before moving to the Bay Area and becoming a vaquera.
