David Gonzalez is a recent UCSC Graduate with a concentration in film production located in Bakersfield, Ca. As a first generation Latino student, he started his college career working in the grape fields to help pay for expenses to begin college, and during that time he realized the passion to move forward with his education. Moving to university he realized what his passion meant in the form of filmmaking, and his films are what he uses to vocalize himself. He found himself making short archival documentaries about Latino deportation during the great depression, and films about his roots and what ambitions he has for the future. This future is supported by his life long friends that have also found themselves rallying behind David in an effort to create projects that prove themselves as young first generation students. These colleagues found a way to support each other through their culture and their art, aiding each other in projects when needed. In his films, David has delved with topics of poverty and the idea of what it means to move forward in life with ambitions. Along with the realities of what being a Latino means in terms of culture and the history they have within the United States, finding a deeper meaning into what it means to move past preconceived notions set before him.
