You are invited to the Los Angeles meeting of Doculink - Tuesday, March 27th

DOCULINK is a community for documentary filmmakers who share information, leads, ideas, and a commitment to support each other’s growth as nonfiction filmmakers.

On Tuesday, March 27th, 6:30-8:30pm, Doculink, in conjunction with Elysian and Clockshop, is hosting a PBS Night with visits from national and local PBS programmers who can educate us about how PBS broadcast works, including which strands of PBS broadcast independent documentaries, what types of films they seek, how to apply, how the PBS contracting process works, what kind of payment filmmakers can expect for their work, and information about the size and scope of both regional and national PBS broadcast audiences. This event will include meet and greet time, talks with very special guests Kathy Lo and Brenda Brkusic, and a Q and A.

Bios about the Speakers:

Kathy Lo is the Director of Program Development for PBS’ Independent Film & PBS Plus branches, responsible for program evaluation, development and acquisitions. She curates Independent Lens, the weekly Emmy® Award-winning anthology showcase for independent film produced in collaboration with the Independent Television Service (ITVS). She also oversees PBS Plus, a syndicated programming service of specials and series in a variety of genres. In addition, she works alongside the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) and member station WGBH to identify and nurture new talent for public media during the annual CPB/PBS Producers Academy.

Brenda Brkusic is the Executive Producer of Program Development and National Productions for PBS SoCal. She joined PBS SoCal (then KOCE) in 2006 as a producer for the Emmy Award-winning nightly news program Real Orange and went on to spearhead PBS SoCal’s digital OC Channel, which has been called “the next generation of PBS” by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. She’s also an Emmy(r) award winning documentary producer, and the founder and owner of a production company, Istina Productions. Recently she was featured as a “Top Business Executive under 40 Years Old” and a “Woman to Watch” in OC Metro Business Magazine.
